The Government has commenced the consultation process to appoint a new Justice of the High Court of Australia. This upcoming appointment will follow the retirement of the Honourable Justice Patrick Keane AC in October 2022 after nine years of outstanding service to the Australian community as a Justice of Australia’s highest court since his appointment in March 2013.

I congratulate all those involved for their dedication and tireless efforts to successfully bring to justice the person responsible for the 1994 bombing of the National Crime Authority in Adelaide.

The Albanese Labor Government welcomes the Full Court of the Federal Court’s unanimous decision to strike down the Morrison Government’s attempt to undermine class actions.

I am pleased to announce that Mr Michael Berry SC has been appointed as a judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFC) (Division 1) as a result of his appointment as a judge of the Family Court of Western Australia (FCWA) on 7 June 2022.

The Government notes the decision of the High Court of Australia in Alexander v Minister for Home Affairs [2022].

Today we celebrate three decades of the landmark High Court decision Mabo v Qld (No 2)
and honour the legacy of the man behind that ruling, Eddie Koiki Mabo.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of the former Chief Justice of the High
Court of Australia, The Hon Sir Francis Gerard Brennan AC KBE GBS QC.

I would like to thank my Labor colleagues, and Prime Minister Albanese for the trust they have shown in appointing me Attorney-General of Australia.

Labor will legislate a National Anti-Corruption Commission by the end of 2022. 

The Morrison Government has cruelly let down Australians harmed by online abuse by failing to even try to pass its long promised Social Media (Anti-Trolling) Bill.
