Labor warmly welcomes Professor Hilary Charlesworth’s election to the International Court of Justice.
Professor Charlesworth AM is one of Australia’s most brilliant legal minds.
As both a scholar and jurist she has made a significant contribution to the study and practice of international law.
In 2013, as Attorney-General, I was proud to nominate her to serve as a temporary judge of the ICJ for the hearing of Australia’s successful anti-whaling case.
I thank the Attorney-General and the Foreign Minister for their nomination of Professor Charlesworth to the ICJ.
