Minimum practice standards launched for child sexual abuse services

The Australian Government has today launched minimum practice standards for specialist and community support services for child sexual abuse.

The overarching message of National Child Protection Week is ‘every child in every community needs a fair go’. A fundamental part of this is ensuring every child and adult impacted by child sexual abuse receives appropriate support, no matter where they are in Australia.

The Minimum Practice Standards: Specialist and Community Support Services Responding to Child Sexual Abuse are a key measure under the National Strategy to Prevent and Respond to Child Sexual Abuse 2021 2030.

The standards will guide the important work already occurring in the sector, and will improve the experience of those impacted by child sexual abuse when they seek help.

The Government thanks the project team at the Australian Centre for Child Protection at the University of South Australia, and everyone who contributed to the development of the Standards, including individuals and organisations who gave their time to support this project.
