LABOR CONGRATULATES JACKI WEAVER FOR LIFETIME AACTA AWARD

Shadow Minister for the Arts Mark Dreyfus has joined in congratulating Jacki Weaver, who received the Raymond Longford Award at the Australian Academy Of Cinema And Television Art (AACTA) Awards last night.

"This award is an endorsement of Jacki's wonderful career and contribution to Australia over more than 50 years," Mr Dreyfus said.

"Since her debut in the 1962 stage production of Cinderella, Jacki Weaver has made her mark on Australian film, theatre and television.

"It's great to see an Australian icon recognised in the third annual International AACTA Awards.

"Her Academy Award and Golden Globe nominated role in the film Animal Kingdom has marked a film revival for Jacki following a considerable stage career.

"Jacki Weaver is an inspiration to up and coming Australian performers, showing there are no limits to what local entertainers can achieve."

The Raymond Longford Award was first presented by the Australian Film Institute (AFI) in 1968 and is the highest honour the film and television industry can present to an individual.

The AACTA was launched by the AFI in 2011 to celebrate Australian achievement in film and television through the AACTA Awards.
