Mark Dreyfus QC MP, Federal Member for Isaacs, yesterday inspected the intersection of Hall Road and Lyrebird Drive at Carrum Downs, which will receive a $263,000 upgrade, under the Federal Government's black spot program.

Mark Dreyfus QC MP, Federal Member for Isaacs, yesterday inspected the intersection of Hall Road and Lyrebird Drive at Carrum Downs, which will receive a $263,000 upgrade, under the Federal Government's black spot program.

The busy intersection in Carrum Downs will have a fully controlled right turn installed with improved road delineation.

Talking to Simone from Lyrebird Community Centre, Mr Dreyfus said the additional right turn lane will make access to Carrum Downs Regional Shopping Centre and nearby Lyrebird Community Centre safer for motorists, as well as improving road and pedestrian safety for local residents.

"This important investment by the Federal Government is helping to make our local roads in Carrum Downs safer and is particularly important given the close proximity of the intersection to Lyrebird Community Centre."

"Since being elected in 2007, the Federal Labor Government has allocated over $1.1 million to fix five black spots in the Isaacs electorate."

The safety upgrade was recommended by a panel of independent road safety experts and will be delivered during the course of the 2011/2012 financial year.

"And the good thing about our Black Spot program is that anyone can suggest an intersection or section of road they believe should be considered for a safety upgrade.
