Senior member appointed to administrative appeals tribunal

Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus QC today announced the appointment of Dr Nicholas Manetta as a Senior Member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. The Administrative Appeals Tribunal provides independent merits review of administrative decisions made by Australian Government ministers, agencies and other tribunals.

SENIOR MEMBER APPOINTED TO ADMINISTRATIVE APPEALS TRIBUNAL

Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus QC today announced the appointment of Dr Nicholas Manetta as a Senior Member of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. The Administrative Appeals Tribunal provides independent merits review of administrative decisions made by Australian Government ministers, agencies and other tribunals.

I congratulate Dr Manetta and look forward to the contribution he will make to administrative justice in this role, Mr Dreyfus said.

Dr Manetta will be based in the South Australian Registry.

The appointment was made in accordance with the Governments Merit and Transparency policy for statutory appointments, introduced in 2008.

Dr Manetta's appointment was decided by Government two weeks ago and has been announced following Executive Council decision, prior to the issue of writs for the election.

Dr Nicholas Manetta

Dr Nicholas Manetta has been a Managing Solicitor in the Administrative and Environment Section in the Crown Solicitors Office of South Australia since 2002 and was formerly an associate at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. He has also been Junior Counsel to the Solicitor-General from 1994 to 1997. Dr Manetta specialises in administrative law, constitutional law, planning and environmental law, and revenue law. His highest qualification is a Doctor of Philosophy in Administrative Law (Cambridge), and he is a part-time lecturer in Administrative Law at the University of South Australia.
