DAVID IRVINE AO
Labor is deeply saddened at the death of former ASIO and ASIS chief David Irvine.
Mr Irvine was one of Australia’s finest public servants and a man who devoted his life to serving and protecting our nation.
Mr Irvine was held in great respect by all sides of Parliament and worked under Prime Ministers John Howard, Kevin Rudd, Julia Gillard, Tony Abbott, Malcolm Turnbull and Scott Morrison.
He is the only person to have been appointed both Director General of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation and the Australian Secret Intelligence Service and also served as Ambassador to China, High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea and Chair of the Foreign Investment Review Board.
David Irvine’s passing is a huge loss to our nation and we offer our deepest sympathies to the family and his many friends and colleagues.
