Appointment to the Australian Law Reform Commission
The Hon Justice Mark Moshinsky will serve as acting President to the Australian Law Reform Commission, following his appointment as a part-time member of the advisory body.
The Australian Law Reform Commission plays an important role to ensure our laws remains relevant and fit-for-purpose. It makes recommendations to government including on how to simplify the law, adopt new or better ways to administer the law and improve access to justice.
Justice Moshinsky was appointed as a judge of the Federal Court of Australia in 2015. Justice Moshinsky has lectured and been a Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne Law School and has published a number of articles on constitutional law and the conflict of laws. He practised as a Barrister at the Victorian Bar, including as Senior Counsel from 2007, specialising in constitutional and administrative law, taxation, superannuation, competition law, private international law and human rights.
Justice Moshinsky will serve as acting ALRC President while a merit-based recruitment process for that role is conducted.
On behalf of the Government, I congratulate Justice Moshinsky and look forward to his contribution to the Australian Law Reform Commission’s work.
Justice Moshinsky’s appointment coincides with the concluding appointments of the Hon Justice Sarah Derrington AM and the Hon Justice John Middleton AM.
The Government thanks Justice Derrington and Justice Middleton for their service to the Australian people as President and part-time Commissioner of the ALRC, respectively.
