DELIVERING FOR DANDENONG PARKS AND SPORTS GROUNDS
A re-elected Albanese Labor Government will invest an additional $1.44 million into key upgrades at Dandenong’s favourite parks and sporting facilities, ensuring our community has the facilities needed to stay active and healthy into the future.
This election commitment will be delivered in partnership with the Greater Dandenong Council and all projects have been identified by the council as local priorities which Council has been unable to fund without assistance. Community input to final designs will occur via the Council.
- Dandenong Park playground redevelopment: a major expansion of the district playground, with new features such as interactive play pillars, dynamic cables, an interactive ball wall, new fence and new sheltered areas.
- Upgrading paths in Lois Twohig Reserve: upgrading and creating new walking paths, which is particularly important for older residents.
- New sensory trail in Tirhatuan Park: designed to provide a calming environment that engages all five senses to help those suffering from dementia or other cognitive diseases. This upgrade will include textured gardens, wind forests, birdwatching stations, art installations, wildlife habitats and open spaces to connect locals to nature.
- Lighting upgrades for Greater Dandenong Football Club at W J Turner Reserve: providing energy efficient LED fittings that are up to Football Victoria and Australian standards, providing a safe environment for players.
- New coaching boxes and upgrading cricket wickets and nets at Greaves Reserve: Cricket wickets and nets will be upgraded and four coaches’ boxes will be installed to provide weather and sport protection for players, coaches and spectators.
- Enhancements at Police Paddocks: DDA access to Baseball diamonds and Softball Pavillion works.
Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.
Quotes attributable to Member for Isaacs, Hon Mark Dreyfus KC MP:
“Dandenong is Australia’s most wonderfully diverse community, but the Liberals completely ignored our parks and grounds.
“I’m proud to be part of a government that understands and listens to the people of Dandenong.
“These projects reflect what Labor Governments do best — we listen to the community, work with local councils, and deliver the support needed to improve people’s daily lives.
“Whether it’s a safer sporting ground, a better playground or new walking paths, these upgrades will help more families enjoy their local parks and stay connected.”
Quotes attributable to Member for Bruce, Hon. Julian Hill MP:
“Greater Dandenong was completely overlooked by the Liberals for a decade.
“The Liberals have never given a stuff about Dandenong – don’t look at what they say before elections, look at what they did for a decade in office.
“These upgrades are driven by local priorities and complement $20 million already allocated by the Albanese Labor Government to the new Dandenong Oasis Pool, $7.5 million to save the nearby Doveton Pool and millions more to make local roads safer.
“Ensuring local sporting fields and reserves are maintained to a high degree is essential to the health and wellbeing of our community.
“The Dandenong community deserves and will receive Commonwealth support from Labor.”
