Federal Member for Isaacs, Mark Dreyfus, today announced that projects to commemorate the Anzac Centenary in Isaacs would be able to share in $100,000 in federal funding grants.
Federal Member for Isaacs, Mark Dreyfus, today announced that projects to commemorate the Anzac Centenary in Isaacs would be able to share in $100,000 in federal funding grants.
Mr Dreyfus said between 2014 and 2018 Australia would commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the First World War.
"The First World War and the original ANZACs helped forge our national identity and define our national character," said Mr Dreyfus.
"Anzac Day is an opportunity to reflect on the service and sacrifice our serviceman and servicewomen have made in the past and those that are currently servicing in the nation's interest."
"The $100,000 allocation is being made available by the Federal Labor Government to the Isaacs electorate to help enable community groups to commemorate the first ANZACs."
"This is an exciting opportunity to obtain grant funding for special projects in our community, which honour those who served in the Great War. I encourage community and ex-service organisations to apply."

Examples of eligible activities under the Program include:
o public commemorative events;
o new First World War memorials or honour boards;
o the restoration of existing First World War memorials or honour boards;
o the preservation, interpretation and display of First World War wartime and military memorabilia and artefacts; and
o relevant school projects.
Mr Dreyfus said he would be appointing an independent, local committee to report on and make recommendations on grant proposals and community projects.
"This funding is very welcome and will allow communities in Isaacs to decide for themselves the way the Anzac Centenary can be best commemorated locally. It will also help ensure the Anzac legacy continues to be handed down to younger generations."
