Labor has vowed to protect renewable energy jobs and investment by rejecting Tony Abbotts plan to cut the Renewable Energy Target by 40 per cent.
Member for Isaacs, Mark Dreyfus said Tony Abbotts plan to cut the Renewable Energy Target will gut investment in the renewable energy sector, put upward pressure on electricity prices and increase carbon emissions.
Labor believes the Renewable Energy Target is a critical part of Australias response to climate change, Mr Dreyfus said.
The Renewable Energy Target has already delivered new investment and thousands of new jobs in Australia.
Tony Abbott has no interest in transitioning the Australian economy to a clean energy future, Mr Dreyfus said.
Carrum Downs based manufacturer ABM Combustion also rejected Tony Abbotts plan to cut the Renewable Energy Target.
Although the majority of our clients use their onsite generated energy locally, the Renewable Energy Target is critical to the strength of the wider renewable energy industry, said ABM Combustions Commercial Manager Samantha Lamond.
A strong renewable energy sector is vital to our business as it sustains momentum through an increased understanding of the many benefits and opportunities.
With the Renewable Energy Target intact, Australia also has the opportunity to utilise and develop its advanced manufacturing skills, particularly within small to medium businesses like ours, Mrs Lamond said.
ABM Combustion is a local manufacturer of gas flare and gas handling systems. Their products pipe and regulate the gas generated by waste from abattoirs, landfills and other industries, to equipment which converts the gas into energy.
