THUNDERSTORM DISASTER ASSISTANCE FOR QUEENSLAND
Attorney-General and Minister Emergency Management Mark Dreyfus QC and Queensland Minister for Police and Community Safety, Jack Dempsey have today announced assistance across 12 local government areas affected by recent storms and flooding in the central and southern parts of Queensland.
Affected Queenslanders have shown great resilience and community spirit, and this support will help them get back on their feet, Mr Dreyfus said.
Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery assistance has been extended to affected residents in Western Downs who may be eligible for personal hardship and distress assistance, including a range of grants administered by the Queensland Government.
Financial assistance is also available to assist local councils in Banana, Fraser Coast, Gympie, Lockyer Valley, North Burnett, Rockhampton, South Burnett and Western Downs with their clean-up activities after the heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
Assistance has been made available to help restore essential public assets as part of the longer term reconstruction effort for the local government areas of Brisbane, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim, Sunshine Coast and Western Downs
Queensland Minister for Police and Community Safety, Jack Dempsey paid tribute to affected Queenslanders.
Our thoughts are with individuals and communities still dealing with the devastation of Tropical Cyclone Oswald, and now faced with the task of cleaning up again following these storms, Mr Dempsey said.
The Commonwealth and Queensland Governments are continuing to assess the impact of these events on the communities affected, and to identify any further recovery assistance that may be required.
