The Greens Party delays vital whistleblower reforms

Today, the Greens Party has deliberately delayed whistleblower reforms in order to score a cheap political point.

The Government sought to have the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee report on the Public Interest Disclosure Amendment (Review) Bill 2022 on 2 February 2023, so stronger whistleblower protections would be in place ahead of the establishment of the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

Instead, with the support of the Liberal Party and National Party, the Greens Party moved an amendment in the Senate which delays the reporting of the Committee until 14 March 2023 and ultimately the implementation of these vital reforms.

This Bill implements recommendations of the 2016 Moss Review, which the former Coalition Government refused to act on.

Labor is here to deliver reform, not delay it.
