Police Ministers Council Advances National Firearms Register
Following the tragic events at Wieambilla in Queensland last December, National Cabinet tasked Police Ministers to provide options to implement a National Firearms Register.
I congratulate all my state and territory colleagues for coming together to progress this important public safety initiative that would ensure police across all jurisdictions have timely and accurate information on firearms risks, and which would help protect the community from harm.
The Police Ministers Council also discussed key law enforcement priorities across Australia including cybercrime, Closing The Gap justice targets and tackling street crime.
The Australian Government will continue to work closely with states and territories to support joint approaches to addressing policing and criminal justice challenges in Australian communities.
