Labor welcomes the appointments to the Office of the Special Investigator announced by the Government today.
Chris Moraitis PSM will bring significant experience to the challenging role as the Director-General of the Office of the Special Investigator
Justice Mark Weinberg QC has a long and distinguished career and has served as a former Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions and judge of the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court in Victoria.
Mr Barnett is a former Deputy Commissioner of the Queensland Police Service and has most recently served as that state's first Racing Integrity Commissioner.
These appointments reflect a significant step forward in the assessment of the serious allegations in the Brereton report. This work is important not only for the alleged victims but also for every soldier that served in Afghanistan and every member of the Defence Force that wears our uniform today.
It is important we now allow the Office of the Special Investigator to do its work.
