NATIONAL CHILDREN’S COMMISSIONER
Labor warmly welcomes the appointment of Anne Hollonds as the new National Children’s Commissioner.
Ms Hollonds, who is currently director of the Australian Institute of Family Studies, has extensive experience working to benefit families and protect children and is well qualified to take up this vital role.
The Gillard Government created the position of National Children’s Commissioner within the Australian Human Rights Commission in 2012 as a dedicated advocate focused on the human rights of children and young people at the national level.
As we stated when appointing Megan Mitchell as the inaugural Children’s Commissioner the following year, ‘We want every child to grow up safe, happy and well. The new Commissioner will make sure the needs of children and young people are put front and centre’.
Megan Mitchell has fulfilled this task superbly, and Labor pays tribute to her seven years of service and dedication to Australia’s children.
