Labor congratulates Rear Admiral the Hon Jack Rush RFD QC RAN on his appointment as Judge Advocate General of the Australian Defence Force.
RADM Rush is one of Australia’s most respected lawyers. A former Judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria, President of the Victorian Bar Council and a QC since 1992, he acted for Lorna Cubillo and Peter Gunner in the landmark Stolen Generations case, and was counsel assisting the Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission.
As a Commander in the Navy Reserve he appeared at the 2006 board of inquiry into the Nias Sea King helicopter tragedy and was counsel assisting the inquiry into the loss of HMAS Sydney.
His dedication and commitment to both the law, and the Australian Defence Force make him an outstanding choice for this vital role maintaining confidence in the system of military justice.
Labor also congratulates Commodore James Renwick CSC SC RAN on his appointment to the position of Deputy Judge Advocate General (Navy). Commodore Renwick served the nation as the Independent National Security Legislation Monitor and Labor welcomes his appointment to this important position.
