HISTORIC GRAMMY NOMINATION FOR HIATUS KAIYOTE
Shadow Minister for the Arts Mark Dreyfus has congratulated Melbourne band Hiatus Kaiyote for their historic Grammy nomination - the first nomination for an Australian band in the Best R&B Performance category.
"Following in the footsteps of Gotye's remarkable three Grammy Awards, Haitus Kaiyote joins Perth band Tame Impala and Keith Urban in this year's nominations," Mr Dreyfus said.
"The Australian Chamber Orchestra has also been nominated in four categories for their album Winter Morning Walks."
Hiatus Kaiyote received a $18,000 grant earlier this year through the International Pathways initiative funded by the Australia Council for the Arts.
"The International Pathways funding is designed to support the development of international markets and audiences through helping Australian artists tour internationally," Mr Dreyfus said.
"Hiatus Kaiyote received a grant to support their United Kingdom and European tour, which has clearly been money well spent.
"It's great that a Melbourne band is out there competing with the best in the world.
"I wish all Australian nominees the best of luck for the awards ceremony in January."
