HIGH COURT APPOINTMENT OF JUSTICE NETTLE
Labor welcomes the appointment of Justice Geoffrey Nettle to the High Court of Australia.
Justice Nettle has served on the Supreme Court of Victoria since 2002.
Justice Nettle has been prominent in the Victorian legal community for decades, appearing in many landmark cases as counsel.
His appointment to the High Court of Australia will enable him to build on the service has given to the people of Victoria, to now serve the whole of our nation.
Labor also acknowledges the service of retiring Justice Susan Crennan AC.
Justice Crennan was appointed in 2005 and was the second woman to sit on the bench of the High Court of Australia.
Justice Crennan has given a lifetime of service to the law.
She has made a wonderful contribution to the courts on which she has served and to the legal profession as Chair of the Victorian Bar and President of the Australian Bar Association.
