HIGH COURT APPOINTMENT OF JUSTICE GORDON
Labor welcomes the appointment of Justice Michelle Gordon to the High Court of Australia.
Justice Gordon has served on the Federal Court of Australia since 2007.
Justice Gordon's appointment to that Court followed a successful career at the Victorian Bar, where she particularly specialised in commercial and taxation law, taking silk in 2003.
Labor also acknowledges the fine service and excellent contribution to Australian law of retiring Justice Kenneth Hayne AC, who has served the Australian community as a judge for many years now. Justice Hayne was appointed to the High Court in 1997, and before that had served as a judge of the Supreme Court of Victoria and the Court of Appeal. We wish him well in his future endeavours.
