FUNDING BOOST FOR YOUTHLAW

Youthlaw, the Young People's Legal Rights Centre Inc based in Melbourne, will receive a one-off funding boost of $100,000 to continue funding its important Skype-based outreach service, Youthlaw Online.

Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus QC announced the increased funding today on a visit to Youthlaw's Melbourne offices.

"Youthlaw Online is a great example of innovative service delivery methods that provide important support to some of the most vulnerable people in our society," Mr Dreyfus said.

"Australians are entitled to a fair go under the law and Youthlaw plays an invaluable role in the delivery of legal assistance services to young people in the community.

"The services provided by Youthlaw help young people gain a practical understanding of how the law affects their lives, and address legal issues before they become more serious problems.

"The Government is committed to improving access to justice for all Australians, and our total nation-wide contribution to legal assistance services over the next four years will be $1.35 billion."

Youthlaw is Victoria's state-wide free community legal centre for young people under 25, providing important outreach services to ten sites in outer urban, rural and regional areas of Victoria.

The additional funding will enable Youthlaw to continue its valuable online service, ensuring the continued availability of a free, online face-to-face resource for young people to seek assistance and information about legal issues. More information can be found on the Youthlaw website.
