MEDIA RELEASE
FUNDING BOOST FOR PINE RIVERS COMMUNITY LEGAL SERVICE
Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus QC today announced that the Pine Rivers Community Legal Service will receive a one-off funding boost of $60,000.
Mr Dreyfus made the announcement during a visit to the Services office in Strathpine.
I am pleased that the Australian Government can provide additional support to the Service, which works closely with its clients to assist with resolving their legal problems before they escalate, Mr Dreyfus said.
The Service provides advice primarily in family law matters, but also assists with other matters such as credit and debt, consumer complaints and employment.
Community legal centres such as Pine Rivers play an invaluable role in the delivery of legal assistance to disadvantaged people in the community.
The Government is committed to improving access to justice and our total nation-wide contribution to legal assistance services over the next four years will be $1.35 billion, Mr Dreyfus said.
We understand the importance of ensuring that all Australians have access to justice. That is why, while the LNP Government has been cutting funds to Queensland legal centres, Labor is working with the sector to support it.
Mr Dreyfus also commended the Services many volunteers who give up their time to assist clients and support the centre.
The Pine Rivers Community Legal Service provides a free and accessible legal advice service to the people of the Moreton Bay region.
