FOREIGN INTERFERENCE INVESTIGATION
This morning Labor was briefed concerning an ongoing foreign interference investigation in Sydney.
Foreign interference is a real and growing threat that we take very seriously.
This is why Labor supported the introduction of the Espionage and Foreign Interference Bill and the Foreign Influence Transparency Scheme in 2018.
Labor banned accepting foreign donations two years before the Government finally made the ban law and recently established a Senate Inquiry into foreign interference through social media.
If more can be done to combat foreign interference, we will always work with our national security agencies and the Government to do it.
Authorities must now be free to properly investigate and do their job, free of any political interference. For that reason, it would be inappropriate to comment further on these allegations.
