FIFIELD ADMITS HE NEVER BOTHERED ASKING WHAT AUSTRALIA POST CEO WAS PAID

Under questioning at Senate Estimates today Communications Minister Senator Mitch Fifield admitted that in his 18 months as Minister he has not once bothered to ask the Australia Post board what CEO Ahmed Fahour was paid.

After blatantly avoiding the question, Senator Fifield said that he merely relied on media reports for a general awareness of the salary.

Its unbelievable that a shareholder Minister of a multi-billion dollar Government Business Enterprise didn't feel that it was his responsibility to know this fact or even once inquire about it.

Is there an example in the Australian economy where the sole shareholder of a billion dollar entity does not know what the person charged with running the company is being paid?Is this the type of oversight taxpayers expect from their Government?

Its bad enough the Coalition Government changed the rules so that Australia Post could keep their executive salaries a secret, but the responsible Minister never lifted a finger to learn more about Mr Fahour's salary, let alone push for it to be publicly released.

This once again shows that the Communications Minister is either wilfully ignorant or just plain lazy.
