AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT SOLICITOR AXED FOR NO BUDGET SAVING
The Abbott Government has confirmed today the abolition of the Australian Government Solicitor.
Astonishingly the Government is cutting up to 600 staff for no saving at all to the Budget.
The Abbott Government's mini-Budget clearly demonstrates that no money will be saved by closing the AGS.
The work of the AGS will simply now be contracted out to private law firms for a much higher price.
The specialist expertise of AGS staff will be lost and may be impossible to replace.
Closing the AGS is short-sighted and will cost the Government into the future.
The AGS has provided legal services and advice to the Commonwealth Government since Federation.
