Joint Media Release
Additional disaster assistance for NSW primary producers
Extra assistance is now available for primary producers who were affected by severe storms and flooding in Northern NSW in January and February 2013, under the jointly funded Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).
Attorney-General and Minister for Emergency Management Mark Dreyfus and NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell today announced that clean up and recovery grants of up to $15,000 will be made available for eligible primary producers in the seven local government areas of Bellingen, Greater Taree, Kempsey, Lismore, Nambucca, Port Macquarie-Hastings and Tweed.
It is clear that primary producers in disaster affected communities in NSW are doing it extremely tough as a result of the recent floods, so this assistance will help get them back on their feet said Mr Dreyfus.
This assistance is over and above the financial and practical support already being provided by the Commonwealth and NSW Governments, said Mr O'Farrell.
Primary producers can apply for the grants through the New South Wales Rural Assistance Authority. Primary producers in these areas affected by the floods can contact the New South Wales Rural Assistance Authority on 1800 678 593 or at www.raa.nsw.gov.au
Information regarding the range of assistance that is available in each of the affected local government areas in NSW can be found on the Australian Governments Disaster Assist website at www.disasterassist.gov.au
The Australian and NSW governments will continue to work together to ensure that disaster affected communities can quickly recover, said Mr Dreyfus.
