46,800 AUSTRALIAN COUPLES LEFT WAITING BY MR TURNBULL

The 2016 Census released today reveals there are 46,800 same-sex couples in Australia, up nearly 40 per cent in five years.

That is nearly 100,000 Australians, their children, their friends and their families who have been let down by Prime Minister Turnbull's inability to stand up to the right wing of his party and make marriage equality a reality in Australia.

According to reports, Mr Turnbull has MPs in his own party who are in favour of a free vote and are doing their best to make it happen.

But Mr Turnbull himself refuses to wake up to reality and is instead clinging on to a plebiscite which has been comprehensively defeated in the Parliament and denounced by Australians.

Australians are losing their patience with Mr Turnbull and his lack of action on marriage equality. They are sick of waiting for him to grow a spine.

It's time for Mr Turnbull to listen to those even in his own party who want change.

If Mr Turnbull does nothing, 100,000-plus Australians will be expressing their disappointment at the ballot box at the next election.
