Federal Member for Isaacs Mark Dreyfus has congratulated Parkdale resident Cindy Suy, 12, for being one of three local sporting stars awarded a grant in the latest round of the Australian Government Local Sporting Champions program.
I congratulate Cindy and all of the recipients of these sporting grants, Mr Dreyfus said.
It is a remarkable achievement to be selected to travel interstate to compete in a sporting championship and each of these young athletes should be very proud of their hard work and achievement.
Im very pleased to be able to present this award to Cindy to recognise her determination and love of sport.
Cindy played very well in several tournaments at the recent Australian Junior Table Tennis Championships in Sydney, including winning a gold medal in one event, Mr Dreyfus said.
The Local Sporting Champions program is an Australian Government initiative designed to provide financial assistance for young people aged 12-18 towards the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment when competing.
Individual applicants are able to apply for up to $500 in funding and teams are eligible for up to $3000.
