VIPASSANA BUDDHIST MEDITATION ASSOCIATION RECEIVES GRANT FOR VAN

Federal Member for Isaacs Mark Dreyfus has welcomed news that the Chelsea and Clayton-based Vipassana Buddhist Meditation Association of Wat Sereychum Australia Inc. will receive $19,132 to purchase a Nissan Pathfinder van to assist older members of the Cambodian-Australian Buddhist community to get to community events.

Mr Dreyfus recommended the project for funding under the second round of the Stronger Communities Grants Programme.

The purchase of this van will be of great significance to a large number of elderly Cambodian-Australians in our community, Mr Dreyfus said.

This van will be used by the Vipassana Buddhist Meditation Association of Wat Sereychum Australia to assist elderly members of theirs to get to community events, greatly improving the mobility of these elderly members of our community.

I am very pleased to have been able to assist the Vipassana Buddhist Meditation Association of Wat Sereychum Australia in obtaining this grant. I wish the Association all the best as it assists its members and the wider Cambodian-Australian community, Mr Dreyfus said.

The Stronger Communities Programme provides grants between $5,000 and $20,000 and is available for projects that improve community participation and contribute to the vibrancy and viability of local communities.

Mark Dreyfus worked with a Community Advisory Committee to identify which ideas represented the best investment in our community, and then made a final recommendation on which projects should receive funding.

More information on the funding programme, including guidelines, is available at http://investment.infrastructure.gov.au/funding/scp/.
