New Buildings for a New Era at Keysborough Primary - Mark Dreyfus QC MP

Keysborough Primary School today celebrated another milestone with the official opening of its new $5.68 million classrooms and buildings, funded under the Federal Labor Government's Building the Education Revolution (BER) Program.

Keysborough Primary School today celebrated another milestone with the official opening of its new $5.68 million classrooms and buildings, funded under the Federal Labor Government's Building the Education Revolution (BER) Program.

After a school merger between Keysborough Park Primary and Coomoora Primary schools three years ago and this year's relocation to Keysborough Secondary College's old site, today's opening marks a new and exciting chapter in the future of Keysborough Primary.

The $5.68 million investment by the Federal Government includes new classrooms, canteen, building refurbishments and compliments the school's impressive community centre.

Speaking at the official opening, Federal Member for Isaacs, Mark Dreyfus said it had been an exciting journey for Principal Margaret McKenzie, teachers, parents and the students of Keysborough Primary.

"It is great to stand with you today to open these wonderful new classrooms and buildings, which will provide students with interactive and open plan learning spaces," said Mr Dreyfus.

"These new facilities will give Keysborough Primary students the best possible start on their educational journey and lays the foundation for our community and our nation's future.

"This historic investment is part of over $100 million invested in schools in Isaacs under the BER Program.

"We all know the key to our nation's success is to provide first class education. It is a hallmark of the Gillard Labor Government to invest in education and our children's future. That is why our Government has also established the Schoolkids Bonus, which provides eligible families up to $410 per year for each child in primary school.

Keysborough Primary School Principal, Margaret McKenzie said "Over the last three years our school community has been involved in a merger, two school site closures and two substantial whole school relocations.

"Our BER project and the wonderful facilities we now offer, help ensure students in the local area will have access to a high quality, sustainable educational future in buildings appropriate to 21st century learning," said Ms McKenzie.

Mr Dreyfus and Ms McKenzie congratulated the students, staff and families and the wider Keysborough community for the positive and forward thinking approach they have taken throughout our journey.
