Mark Dreyfus QC MP, Federal Member for Isaacs, last Friday joined an excited Mordialloc College school community to celebrate the official opening of the $2,000,000, federally funded, Discovery Centre.
Funded through the Science and Learning Centre component of the Federal Government's Building the Education Revolution (BER) program, the Discovery Centre will provide over 800 students at Mordialloc College with a dedicated science facility.
Mr Dreyfus said that the new science centre would transform teaching of science at Mordialloc College, offering a state-of-the-art, open learning environment which is conducive to a more flexible approach to teaching.
"This is a fantastic addition to the educational services offered to students at Mordialloc College and will inspire and energise students to pursue studies in the sciences in a quest for knowledge," Mr Dreyfus said.
"The hard work of current principal, Michelle Roberts, former principal Lorraine Harris, and the wider school community has ensured that this project has been a resounding success and will deliver wonderful educational outcomes for current and future Mordialloc College students." Mr Dreyfus said.
In addition to the funding provided for the Discovery Centre, the Federal Government has provided Mordialloc College with $200,000 for refurbishment worksand 150 computers through the Computers in Schools Program.
"Education is one of the best gifts we can give our children and at all levels of government we should encourage investment in education. The BER program has delivered exceptional facilities for schools in the Isaacs electorate," Mr Dreyfus said.
