Mark Dreyfus QC MP, Federal Member for Isaacs, today officially opened Mt Hira College's $850,000 multi-purpose hall and gymnasium, funded under the Federal Government's Building the Education Revolution Program.
Joining excited students, teachers and parents, Mr Dreyfus congratulated the school community on the success of their building program.
"The BER program has once again delivered for our children and our local schools." Mr Dreyfus said.
"This substantial upgrade to the Mt Hira's facilities will boost the quality of education delivered to students and illustrates the Federal Government's commitment to providing top class education in Greater Dandenong and across the country."
Under the capital works upgrade, Mt Hira College received $125,000 from the National School Pride component of the program, which funded the upgrade of the college's sports grounds, as well as the more substantial contribution of $850,000 from the Primary Schools for the 21st Century Program, which funded the construction of the gymnasium and multi-purpose hall.
These programs are all part of the Building the Education Revolution Program which has invested $16.2 billion in schools throughout Australia.
Mr Dreyfus thanked Principal Pat Gay and the school community for ensuring this project was a resounding success.
