The Victorian Government has today confirmed that there never was a plan for extended elevated rail along the Frankston line and that the Victorian Government will not be building one.
Eleven level crossings are being removed on the Frankston line, in line with the State Governments election pledge to improve safety for Victorians. Three are already being removed with rail under road and the remaining eight crossings are spaced out along the rail corridor, with other level crossings to be left in place in between.
This means an extended elevated rail line is not possible and the Victorian Government will not be building one.
Victorian Minister for Transport, the Hon Jacinta Allan MP, today called out the Liberal Partys campaign of lies in the federal electorate of Isaacs, making clear there has never been a plan for extended elevated rail on the Frankston Line. The Liberal Partys dishonest campaign against a sky rail on the Frankston line is, and always has been, a totally false representation of the State Governments plans to improve safety on the Frankston Line and to improve travel times for those using the roads.
This dishonest campaign has now been exposed as a cynical ploy designed by the Liberal Party to stoke fear in the community and to distract from federal issues that affect our community, such as the Turnbull Governments cuts to schools and Medicare, and the recent slashing of jobs at the CSIROs research centre at Aspendale.
The Liberals in Isaacs have chosen to campaign on fear and lies. Residents recently received a flyer, authorised only by S. Frost, who although it was not stated, is the State Director of the Victorian Liberal Party. The flyer included several pieces of misinformation about the Victorian State Governments level crossing removal program, including the false claim that the State Government is planning to build Sky Rail lines four storeys high near you. This was never the case.
The Victorian Government made it clear that there will be no sky rail along the Frankston line, so its about time that the Liberal candidate for Isaacs stopped running a false, fear campaign, said Mr Dreyfus.
Now the Liberal candidates scare campaign has been exposed as the lie that it is, the voters of Isaacs will rightly demand to hear what the Liberals have to say on issues that matter. And they will be disappointed because on health, education and local jobs, the Liberals have nothing positive to say, Mr Dreyfus said.
Only a Shorten Labor Government will put people first by standing up for middle and working class families with our fully costed plans to support jobs, education and health while building a stronger and fairer economy for all Australians.
