GREATER DANDENONG CELEBRATES REFUGEE WEEK 2017
Refugee Week 2017 is an opportunity to celebrate those refugees in Greater Dandenong who are building a better life in Australia and are contributing to our wonderfully diverse community.
Theres a strong, vibrant and multicultural society in Greater Dandenong and we welcome refugees who have settled and call our community home.
Refugees have contributed to all aspects of life in Greater Dandenong theyre our colleagues, our classmates, our neighbours and our friends. They have all made Dandenong and Melbourne a better place to live for all of us.
As the Federal Members for Isaacs, Hotham and Bruce we are looking forward to celebrating alongside our community as part of the Refugee Week 2017.
We want to take this opportunity to thank the many settlement and migrant services in Greater Dandenong for the continuous work they do year round to help refugees settle in our community.
Labor recognises the invaluable contribution refugees make to our communities across Australia and also recognises that we as a country can do more to address the global humanitarian crisis.
That is why Labor took to the last election a commitment to increase Australias annual humanitarian intake to 27,000 by 2025, all whilst ensuring refugees can progress with their claims safely and securely.
Refugee Week 2017 runs from 18-24 June and encompasses United Nations World Refugee Day on 20 June.
