GRANT FUNDING APPROVED FOR LYREBIRD COMMUNITY CAF
Federal Member for Isaacs Mark Dreyfus has welcomed news that Lyrebird Community Centre in Carrum Downs will receive $9,500 to establish a community caf on the centre premises.
Mr Dreyfus recommended the project for funding under the first round of the Stronger Communities Grants Programme.
Im pleased that the Lyrebird Community Centre will receive this funding to purchase the equipment required to start a community caf, Mr Dreyfus said.
The Lyrebird Community Centre is truly the heart of Carrum Downs and this funding will allow this fantastic centre to provide training opportunities for local residents interested in a career in hospitality, as well as create some delicious food for local residents.
I am very pleased to have been able to assist the Lyrebird Community Centre to obtain this grant.
I am sure that the project will be a great success for the Lyrebird Community Centre and the wider Carrum Downs community, Mr Dreyfus said.
This Programme provides grants between $5,000 and $20,000 and is available for projects that improve community participation and contribute to the vibrancy and viability of local communities.
Mark Dreyfus worked with a Community Advisory Committee to identify which ideas represented the best investment in our community, and then made a final recommendation on which projects should receive funding.
Round two of the Stronger Communities Grants Programme is open now and closes on 1 April, Mr Dreyfus said.
Im interested in recommending the best ideas in our community so Im keen to hear from as many local community groups as possible about how they might spend this money.
I would encourage locals and community groups to begin thinking about any projects that they think would benefit our community and consider applying for funding.
